Important Media Principles


Some information about Communication and Media Study.

  • Presently According to School Curriculum There is Media and Communication study for Grade 10 and 11 Students and after that for A/L too.
  • According to this accommodation In Sinhala Medium More than 450 schools teach this subject and only in 40 Tamil Medium Schools. But Why not teach in Tamil Medium? because there are no teachers for this subject.
  • If any one try to learn Journalism  as professional subject following Institutions are offering the opportunity for that.
  • Collage of Journalism which offer one year full time Diploma Course in three Calgary. 1.Radio Course 2. TV Course 3. Print 
  • Last 7 years this course was Dip in Journalism one year full time and from last year added Advertising also. Bot form this year Collage expect no separate course for this three category but all three together in one year Dip course.
  • Basic qualification for this course is A/L 3 passes with current knowledge and course commence in three languages.
  • Course fee is 140.000 (One Lack and Forty Thousand) You may ask why this much fee? yes but collage has to spent more than 600.000/student for several ways such as equipment, Filed Trip, AC lecture room facility and Practical Training. But in this amount charging only 25% of that expense. And Three in installment can pay. For this course including 2 1/2 month Internship training also in recognize media Houses

Except Collage of Journalism There are in some other places also offering Media courses
  1. University of Colombo (Dip in Journalism only 3 an hours in a week on Sut day) No practical Training. Good for basic Knowledge.
  2. Media  Resource and Training Center (MRTC - Jaffna also one year Dip Course)
  3. Degree Course in the University of Kelaniya, University of Sri Jeyawardenapura, University of Jaffna and short time course in the Open University of Sri Lanka.  
Media Motivation among the Muslim Community

There are  more than10.000 Journalist and Media professionals in Sri Lanka.  Among them about 900 are Muslim Journalist (Including Freelance Journalista and writers) from all over the Country. But most of them Need proper training in this field to shine as excellent Journalist. Only few of them are fluent in Two or Three Languages. Therefore they need at least two language skill. But if they are capable in Sinhalese language too its more useful.
